Marlborough Day 2014 - Vendor Locations

• During setup and breakdown, traffic will be one way in the direction of the parade route : west along Main Street, north on Elm, east on Gov. Oden Bowie.
• We recommend arriving to set your booth up between 7am and 8am. You may start setting up at 6am, but we may still be getting organized.
• Please have your parking pass ready when you approach the checkpoint. If you are traveling in more than one vehicle, please coordinate to meet up so you can approach together. Good places include any of the gas stations along MD 725, McDonalds, or Dunkin Donuts.
• >Vehicles will need to be off the roads at 9am so we can safely begin the parade lineup.
• If you arrive after 8:45am, you may be denied entry to the closure area. If it is getting close, take MD 4 to Water Street, and park in the lot across from the 7-11, and carry your stuff in.
• The vendor parking pass allows you to park in only two bays of that parking lot; if you do not have a handicap parking pass, do not park in a handicap space, or you will be ticketed
• If you are in the 100s, 200s, or 300s ... approach the town using Main Street (MD 725) from the east. After the checkpoint and traffic light, 100s will be on your right, 200s on your left. 300s are along the pedestrian walkway after the grandstand
• If you are in the 300s ... please wait until directed to enter the walkway; the width of the walkway means that we cannot support two-way traffic. Please find your space, unload your stuff, then move your car to off-street parking, come back, and set up your area. Please keep your tents set back until all vendors have unloaded.
• If you are in the 400s or 500s ... approach the town from the Water Street exit on MD 4 / Pennsylvania Ave. After the checkpoint & traffic light, 400s will be on your left, 500s on your right.
• Vehicles must be moved to off-street parking until 5pm.
• If you need more than an hour to pack up, please move everything to the sidewalk (or parking spaces, if available), as we need to re-open the street to traffic at 6pm.
• Please bring everything you need to set up your table / booth.
• We do not supply tents or tables. Every year we have at least one person who mis-reads the form, or insists that we promised them one ... and it always seems to increase in election years.
• We do not supply electrical cords. For those that indicated on the form that they need electricity, I have attempted to place them within 100 feet of the outlets (space #230, other side of the white fence from space #316)
• Please secure your tents before the winds start picking up. If your rear poles are on dirt, stake them down. Otherwise, use weights or cable tie them to your table. Even if the wind doesn't blow your tent away, a lift + sudden drop will destroy it.
• We are a rain or shine event. We often get rain the night before, and sometimes afternoon showers, but visitors show up even when the town's under water (literally)..

• 5am-ish : festival staff start arriving.
• 6am : barricades go up, and roads are closed to through traffic
• 8:45am : we stop allowing new vendor vehicles into the festival area
• 9am : vendors must move their vehicles to off-street parking; parade lineup starts
• 10am : parade starts
• 5pm : vendors may bring their vehicles back onto the streets
• 6pm : we re-open the roads to through traffic
• 7pm : festival staff go home, dip ourselves in solarcane, then sleep for the next 16hrs or so.

Thank you for being a part of the annual Marlborough Day Festival. Unfortunately, so many people have requested to be placed on Main Street that we are unable to accomodate them all. As such, I have prioritized them in the following order :

• Those groups that help organize Marlborough Day
• Requests by the Marlborough Day volunteers
• Our sponsors & advertisers
• Local businesses. (who typically asked to be placed in front of their store)
• Difficult to place vendors (eg, those requesting multiple spaces, and trying to make sure they didn't have a utility pole in the middle)
• Vendors returning from previous years (attempting to put them near the same location unless they requested otherwise or it was unavailable, in order by guilt if they had really poor traffic the year before)
• In order of applications received.

I was simply unable to satisfy some requests as they were for areas we're not allowed to use (eg, the courthouse lawn), or they were far away from the bulk of the vendors (eg, Darnall's Chance). Some requests were left open to interpretation:

• I live a couple of blocks away and walk, so 'where you enter' may not mean what you were hoping for
• I interpreted the 'middle' to be the pedestrian mall. I don't typically like to assign people there who haven't been to our festival before, but we had quite a few request 'middle'.
• For those who requested 'corner' and we're more specific, I attempted to

  ... so, all that being said ... if you'd like a better location for next year, help us organize next year's event, and we'll make sure you get a specific spot.
